Grenoble

Situated in the heart of the Alps and of the Dauphine, Grenoble is one of the most attractive cities in south-eastern France. The town is small and although packed with shops, bars and restaurants, has a pleasantly relaxed feel to it. Much of the old town centre is pedestrianised, forming a compact area of streets and squares that spread south from the river towards the Town Hall, on the edge of Parc Mistral. Sights not to be missed include the magnificent views accessible by cable car from the top of the Bastille overlooking Grenoble. Visitors seeking culture should seek out the Musee de Grenoble, noted throughout France for its collection of paintings and sculptures from Picasso, Matisse and Léger amongst others.
