Guanajuato is also the name of its capital city, Guanajuato, which means "Place of Frogs". This is a truly beautiful city and many tourists as well as locals consider it to be the most beautiful in Mexico, and its famous mines are still among the richest-producing silver mines in the world. There is much to keep you busy while there as this is a historical and picturesque town of agreeable little plazas, streets lined with stairs and plenty of quality restaurants and bars to see and visit.
