Kota Kinabalu Kota Kinabalu, also known as Jesselton, is the beautiful capital of Sabah, which is a state in sunny Malaysia. Kota Kinabalu is located on the northwest coast of the island of well known Borneo and facing the South China Sea and Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. One the other side there is Mount Kinabalu in the background; therefore Kota Kinabalu sprawls for kilometres along the coast and towards inland. The population is known to be of 532,000 in the city and just over 700,000 in the urban area, which makes Kota Kinabalu the largest urban centre in Sabah as well as the sixth largest in Malaysia.
