Lake Garda Lake Garda, resting at the foot of the Alps in the north of Italy, is about half way between Venice and Milan. The lake was formed at the end of the last ice age by the glaciers coming down off the Alps, and is surrounded by many interesting tourist attractions including a number of Roman Spa complexes at Virgilio and Catullo. Dating back to the 13th century is Scaliger Castle, home to the famous sulphur springs, renowned for their healing properties, particularly of ailments relating to the ear, nose and throat.
