Lake Maggiore

Lake Maggiore, straddling the borders of northern Italy and Switzerland in the heart of the Alps, is the second largest lake in Europe after nearby Lake Garda. The lake was formed by glaciers at the end of the last ice age, and now has a temperate Mediterranean climate which has provided perfect conditions for the surrounding gardens growing rare and exotic plants. Like Loch Ness in Scotland, Lake Maggiore is said to be home to its own monster!
