Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen has grown tremendously in popularity during the last decade with good reason. The town has developed along the seafront giving it a feel of closeness to the ocean and offers spectacular diving. The town itself has plenty of shops and restaurants and a vibrant nightlife. Lots of tourists come over from Cancun so it's worth bearing in mind that the town gets less crowded the further north you get. Between Constituyentes and Coco Beach the beach is less crowded and not as developed if you prefer relaxation, whilst Playacar to the south is where all the big, all-inclusive resorts are located. Playa del Carmen is a small place making it perfect for casual explorers. Regardless of where you chose to stay, you will be within walking distance of other resorts and taxis are cheap if you prefer to drive between destinations.
