Reims

Reims or (Rhiems) is a city in northern France, it is just over an hour's drive east northeast of Paris. Reims had a very important role in French history, it is perhaps best known for its magnificent cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims, and many of the French monarchy were officially crowned here. Reims is often considered the capital of the Champagne region, and many champagne houses have their headquarters here, these open for tasting and guided tours, however, it is advisable to phone ahead beforehand. The city centre is full of historical sites, The Palace of Tau merits a visit as does The Porte de Mars (a large late-Roman period triumphal arch) and the Saint Remi Basilica.
