Sao Luis Sao Luis is the capital city of the Brazilian state of Maranhao, and is situated on the Sao Luis Island. It is an ancient and beautiful city full of history, tradition and folklore. The main economic activity of the city has always been the exportation of cotton and sugar, being nowadays the tourism also very important. Every year, hundreds and hundreds of tourist go to this place to enjoy its spectacular carnivals and its peaceful sandy and crystalline beaches. The cathedral, the Episcopal palace are good examples of the colonial architecture which decorate the city.
