Poland Poland's geographical location and ethnical diversity make her a unique place, where western and oriental culture mix together creating some unique personalities and characteristics. Located in Central Europe, east of Germany, Poland is an unbroken plain reaching from the Baltic Sea in the north to the Carpathian Mountains in the south. Within that plain, terrain variations generally run in bands from east to west.
A popular tourist region is the northeastern region called the Lake District which comprises the most extensive lake complex in Poland: the Great Mazurian Lakes also home to a rich and interesting habitat of various bird species. If you are after sun and sea on your holiday the Polish coast is nearly 500km long and has fine, sandy beaches as well as the highest European dunes.
Polish culture has a rich thousand-year history influenced from both west and east. Today, we can see these influences in Polish architecture, folklore and art. Poland has also been under cultural influence from countries such as Italy, Ottoman Empire, France and USA. There are many big cities in Poland that are worth seeing including of course Kraków and Warsaw. Most of them have a flourishing medieval history.
Famous Polish meals include bigos (a savory stew of sauerkraut, cabbage and meat), kiełbasa (Polish sausage), barszcz (borscht – a beetroot based vegetable soup), czernina (duck blood soup) and various potato dishes.
